Public television stations are different from commercial stations ————.

অধিকাংশ প্রতিযোগিতামূলক পরীক্ষায় Sentence completion (বাক্য সমাপ্তি) প্রায়ই থাকে। প্রশ্ন-বাক্যে এক বা একাধিক শূন্যস্থান থাকে, অপশনে থাকা শব্দ বা শব্দভাণ্ডার ব্যবহার করে তা পূরণ করতে হবে। প্রশ্নের অপশনে থাকা শব্দভান্ডার এবং শব্দগুলির মধ্যে সূক্ষ্ম পার্থক্য বিদ্যমান থাকে। এই শব্দগুলো থেকে বাক্যের সাথে সংগতিপূর্ণ ও উপযুক্ত শব্দ বা শব্দভান্ডার পছন্দ করে বাক্যপূর্ণ করতে হয়।

সবচেয়ে বেশি আসা এবং গুরুত্বপূর্ণ নিয়মগুলোর নিচে দেওয়া হলো:

১. Conditional Sentences (শর্তযুক্ত বাক্য)

Sentence Completion-এ এই অংশ থেকে সবচেয়ে বেশি প্রশ্ন আসে।

First Conditional: If + Present Indefinite + Future Indefinite

Example: If you study hard, you will pass the exam.

Second Conditional: If + Past Indefinite + Subject + would/could/might + Verb(Base form)

Example: If I had money, I would buy a car.

Third Conditional: If + Past Perfect + Subject + would have/could have/might have + Verb(Past Participle/V3)

Example: If he had seen me, he would have called me.

২. As if / As though (যেন)

অবাস্তব কোনো আচরণ বা তুলনা বোঝাতে এটি ব্যবহৃত হয়।

রুল ১: প্রথম অংশ Present Tense হলে, পরের অংশ Past Indefinite হয়। (Be verb থাকলে সবসময় were বসে)।

Example: He acts as if he were a mad.

রুল ২: প্রথম অংশ Past Indefinite হলে, পরের অংশ Past Perfect (had + V3) হয়।

Example: She spoke as though she had known everything.

৩. It is time / It is high time (এটাই উপযুক্ত সময়)

কোনো কাজ করার সময় পার হয়ে যাচ্ছে, তাই এখনই তা শুরু করতে হবে—এমন বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।

রুল ১: এরপর কোনো Subject থাকলে, Verb-টির অবশ্যই Past form (V2) হবে।

Example: It is high time we changed our bad habits.

রুল ২: এরপর Subject না থাকলে, সরাসরি to + Verb(Base form) বসে।

Example: It is high time to change our bad habits.

৪. Lest (পাছে ভয় হয় যে / এই ভয়ে যে)

নেতিবাচক বা ভীতিজনক কোনো পরিণতি এড়ানোর কথা বোঝাতে এটি বসে।

গঠন: Lest + Subject + should/might + Verb(Base form)

সতর্কতা: Lest নিজেই নেতিবাচক অর্থ প্রকাশ করে, তাই এর পরের অংশে কখনোই 'not' বা 'no' বসবে না।

Example: Walk fast lest you should miss the train.

৫. No sooner had / Hardly had / Scarcely had

একটি কাজ হতে না হতেই আরেকটি কাজ শুরু হওয়া বোঝাতে এগুলো ব্যবহৃত হয়।

No sooner had + Subject + V3 + ... + than + Subject + V2

Example: No sooner had the teacher entered the classroom than the students stood up.

Hardly / Scarcely had + Subject + V3 + ... + when/before + Subject + V2

Example: Scarcely had we reached the station when the train left.

৬. So...that এবং Too...to (এতই যে)

So...that: Subject + Verb + so + Adjective/Adverb + that + Subject + can not / could not + Verb(Base form)

Example: The old man is so weak that he cannot walk.

Too...to: Subject + Verb + too + Adjective/Adverb + to + Verb(Base form)

Example: The old man is too weak to walk.

৭. Parallelism (সমজাতীয় গঠন)

বাক্যে and, but, or ইত্যাদি Conjunction দ্বারা যুক্ত শব্দ বা ফ্রেজগুলোর গঠন বা Parts of speech সবসময় একই (Parallel) হতে হয়।

ভুল: I like singing, dancing, and to read.

সঠিক: I like singing, dancing, and reading. (সবগুলোই Gerund/V+ing ফর্মে থাকতে হবে)।

৮. Would you mind / With a view to / Look forward to

সাধারণত 'to'-এর পর Verb-এর Base form বসলেও, কিছু নির্দিষ্ট ফ্রেজের পর Verb-এর সাথে -ing যুক্ত হয়।

ফ্রেজগুলো: With a view to, Look forward to, Get used to, Be used to, Would you mind, Cannot help, Could not help.

Example: Would you mind opening the door? Example: I went to the library with a view to reading books.
